Introducing Chromatic Impressionism

There’s a moment that happens in nature—just before the sun rises through the trees, or when the sky deepens after rain—that stays with you. It isn’t about the details. It’s about the feeling. That quiet rush of colour. That stillness. That memory you can’t quite put into words.

That’s what I try to capture on canvas.

My name is Kevin McKeown, and I’m a visual artist based in Perth, Western Australia. I paint expressive landscapes that blend abstraction, emotion, and natural light—what I call Chromatic Impressionism.

What is Chromatic Impressionism?

Chromatic Impressionism is my personal take on impressionist landscape painting, where colour isn’t just a visual choice—it’s the language of emotion. My work combines layered oil and acrylic textures with vivid, jewel-toned palettes to reimagine the natural world in a more intuitive, felt way.

Each painting is a reflection of how I experience landscape—not through realism, but through energy, memory, and mood. Whether it’s the hush of a forest at dawn or the bold heat of an inland summer, I aim to create a visual story you can feel as much as see.

Why I Paint Landscapes

Growing up in Australia, the land around me has always felt alive. The light here shifts quickly, the colours burn deep, and the silence often says more than words. Painting is how I stay in touch with that — and how I share it.

My hope is that each piece becomes more than decor. I want it to stir something in you—a calmness, a spark, a memory of being somewhere wild and still.

What’s Next?

I’m currently working on a series called “Deep in the Woods”—a collection of forest-inspired works exploring light, stillness, and emotional space. I’ll also be releasing limited-edition prints soon, making this new direction accessible to a wider range of collectors and art lovers.
